About

I am an engineer somewhere in Europe. I write here, irregularly, about small problems I find interesting — usually at the boundary between networks, operating systems, and the patience required to read a manual all the way through.

I keep the handle short on purpose. The internet does not need another personal brand, and I would rather these notes be useful than legible to a recruiter. If a paragraph here saves someone an evening of grep-ing, that is enough.

The site is hand-written HTML rendered into static files. There is no JavaScript, no analytics, no fonts loaded from third parties, no cookies. The server runs nginx on a small VPS; the feed at /feed.xml is an Atom feed and updates when I add a note.

Colophon

Body type is set in Iowan Old Style, falling back through Charter to Georgia depending on what the operating system provides. Monospace is whatever the system thinks is a good monospace. Layout is one narrow column, because anything wider gives me a headache.

The accent color is a deep red I borrowed from the cover of a paperback I still have on my desk. I have not changed it in two years and I do not plan to.

Contact

Email is the only sensible way to reach me. The address is hi at this domain. I read it once or twice a week. I do not promise to reply, but I do promise to read.
